Authors' recommendations: In summary, the AGREE instrument uncovered key quality issues in the methods used to develop recommendations in the CTS guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disordered breathing in adults. Only an executive summary of the guideline has been published, so many of the details important for the assessment of scope, purpose, stakeholder involvement, and rigor of development are poorly reported. Furthermore, the applicability of the guideline to clinical practice is poorly addressed. Important issues such as potential organizational barriers, cost implications, and key review criteria for the monitoring of patient outcomes are not discussed. However, recommendations are clearly presented and are consistent with other clinical practice guidelines on the topic. The limitations revealed in this quality assessment should be taken into consideration when formulating comprehensive policies for the use and reimbursement of devices used in the diagnosis and treatment of OSA.
