Authors' objectives:

This report assesses the evidence published on the use of this technology for gynecological surgeries.

Authors' recommendations: No good methodological quality studies comparing the use of robotic surgery against laparotomy and conventional laparoscopic surgery have been found. The systematic reviews found report studies comparing populations that are not similar. The main advantage found in the studies published is a shorter hospital stay and less blood loss when compared to laparotomies. These differences (when present) are not clinically relevant when compared to conventional laparoscopic surgery. The surgeon's satisfaction when performing these different types of surgeries is still to be evaluated using better tools. Remote surgery might become an important advantage, if it were necessary. Its cost is still its main disadvantage. Randomized studies assessing a larger number of patients, with longer follow-ups, and that include other relevant gynecological/oncological clinical results are required to be able to draw definite conclusions.
