Authors' objectives: To draw up quality indicators for the use of TAVI in treating symptomatic severe aortic stenosis, based on available scientific evidence and expert opinion.
Authors' recommendations: On the basis of a systematic review of the literature and expert opinion, a set of 23 quality indicators was drawn up for evaluating the performance of TAVI in patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis. All the indicators were deemed appropriate by the group of experts. The standards of 2 indicators were classified as uncertain but were not ruled out. There are indicators, fundamentally of structure and process, with a standard of 100%, which should thus be regarded as pre-requisites for implementing the technique at a hospital. The participation of expert professionals is essential for drawing up indicators and quality standards useful and appropriate to clinical practice. The group of experts took a very active part in developing indicators for TAVI, and their suggestions have given rise to more accurate and comprehensive indicators to assess the quality of the technique's implementation. It would be advisable for these indicators to be implemented at all hospitals where the technique is used, to ensure the quality of the procedure and identify possible areas for improvement.
