Transvaginal ultrasound for measurement of cervical length to predict preterm birth
One of the applications of transvaginal ultrasound (TVU) is identification of women at risk for preterm birth because of cervical insufficiency (short cervix). TVU may be used to measure cervical length as a routine screening procedure, as a method of surveillance in asymptomatic women with known risk factors for preterm birth, or to identify symptomatic women who are at imminent risk of preterm birth.
