Botulinum toxin treatment for chronic anal fissure

Record ID 32011000878
English
Authors' objectives:

Botulinum toxin (BTX) is used for the endoscopic treatment of gastrointestinal disorders such as chronic anal fissure (CAF) that are characterized by sphincteric spasticity. For the treatment of CAF, BTX is injected directly into the anal sphincter in order to produce chemical denervation by blocking synaptic transmission. This relaxes the sphincter, causes temporary relief of the symptoms, and allows healing.
