Record ID 32011000837

Authors' objectives:

Epicondylitis is a common type of tendonitis that is usually due to overuse of the extensor tendons of the forearm. This disorder can cause chronic elbow pain and loss of grip strength. Although it is sometimes referred to as epicondylalgia or tennis elbow, epicondylitis can arise due to strain from many different types of activities. In one worksite survey, the annual incidence of epicondylitis was 1% for employees in nonstrenuous jobs and it ranged from 6% to 11% for employees in jobs involving strenuous manual labor. Conservative therapies such as rest and topical and oral drug therapy are available for treatment of epicondylitis; however, patients who do not respond adequately to conservative therapies may require physical therapy, steroid injections, or surgery.
