Near-infrared spectroscopy (INVOS cerebral/somatic oximeter) (Covidien) for adult cerebral indications

Record ID 32011000810
English
Authors' objectives:

Brain damage can occur after heart surgery and some other types of surgery. In many instances, the resulting neurological disorders are due to inadequate oxygenation of brain tissue during surgery. Brain damage due to insufficient oxygenation can also develop after a head injury. Although several different techniques are available for monitoring blood flow and oxygenation in the brain, each of these techniques has limitations such as indirect measurement of oxygenation, need for specially trained personnel to perform monitoring, or invasive placement of probes.
