Record ID 32011000805
English
Authors' objectives:

Neuropathic pain is present in an estimated 2% to 8% of the population, and in 25% of patients with chronic pain, and results from damage to or dysfunction of the peripheral or central nervous system, rather than stimulation of pain receptors. Chronic neuropathic pain disorders frequently remain undiagnosed and may include phantom limb pain, postherpetic neuralgia, complex regional pain syndromes, diabetic neuropathy, and pain related to stroke or spinal cord injuries. The condition is difficult to treat, and approximately 60% of patients with neuropathy are undertreated.
