Authors' objectives:

Glaucoma refers to a group of optic disorders in which vision is lost and the optic nerve is damaged. In the United States, approximately 4 million people have glaucoma and it is responsible for blindness in approximately 120,000 individuals. It has been estimated that there are 65 million cases of glaucoma worldwide. Although glaucoma cannot be prevented, treatments to slow the progression of the disease are available. Usual care for glaucoma usually includes eye drops and/or oral medications that reduce intraocular pressure, the fluid pressure inside each eye. Glaucoma treatment may also require laser or incision surgery to open or remove blocked drainage canals inside affected eyes.
