Authors' recommendations: We asked for current use and future applications of nanomedicine and there was a blank space in order to freely express opinions or to propose issues considered of interest by experts. 58 questionnaires were sent and 10 responses were obtained (17%). Most experts (60%) knew applications currently used in clinical practice which shows a homogeneity on this question. Likewise, we obtained very similar responses about short-term uses: 80% knew nanodevices to be used in a 5 years horizon, and 7 experts pointed at specific systems and at diseases it will be used on. The bibliometric study stated an exponential growth in the number of papers on nanomedicine in humans, although most of them were review articles. We appreciated concordance between experts’ answers and bibliometric study for technologies to be used in a medium term. Among them, drug releasing systems were emphasized and especially those used for cancer therapy and biosensors as diagnostic tools.
