Health Council of the Netherlands, Gezondheidsraad
Record ID 32011000489
English
Authors' objectives:
The aim of this report is to provide an update on the state of scientific knowledge. It covers developments in the field of fetal therapy in the Netherlands and other countries since the publication of the Health Council’s report. It also aims to contribute to the vital debate on the issue of how high-quality care in this field can continue to be assured in the years to come. The developments in this field give rise to ethical and legal questions. What is the significance of the fact that fetuses can increasingly also be regarded as patients? How does this relate to the abortion debate? What are doctors responsible for in this area, and what lies outside their responsibility? And what about pregnant women in this regard? What regulations apply, and are they adequate? The Health Council will address these normative aspects in more detail in a separate report to be produced by the Centre for Ethics and Health (CEG).
