Authors' recommendations: MIO may enable effective oesophageal resection whilst resulting in decreased procedure time, duration of ICU and overall hospital stay, blood loss and hence need for transfusions. However, more studies comparing MIO and the open procedure are required to determine the relative safety an efficacy of MIO.
